Celebrating 20 Years Together

Lccu 20th anniversary logo

Dear Members,

Today marks a very special day in our history. On this day in the year 2000, Latino Community Credit Union, la Cooperativa, opened its doors for the first time with the mission to empower communities through ethical financial products. In the 20 years that have since passed, you and every member of the LCCU family have helped turn the dreams of so many into a reality. What started as a simple idea has transformed into a widespread movement, propelling financial inclusion across the state and beyond.

In our humble beginnings, we operated out of an empty building located in downtown Durham, North Carolina. Since then, we have expanded our presence to a total of 14 branches across the state, with three more locations coming soon. We have seen our family expand to 90,000 members, we’ve helped more than 33,500 of them build their credit history, and we have supported more than 6,000 achieve their dreams of home ownership. As we look to the future, we are committed to continue this great work.

Today, we all face unprecedented challenges due to the global pandemic that continues to affect almost every aspect of our lives. However, in spite of these daunting circumstances, our credit union has not wavered in its ability to fulfill its mission. Our resilience in the face of such adversity is the direct result of your strength. We are immigrants. We are refugees. We are individuals devoted to advancing the wellbeing of our fellow neighbors. We understand the importance of working together to overcome our common obstacles. Without the hard work of all of you, our credit union could never have accomplished so much over the last two decades.

In recognition of all that we have achieved together, join us in celebration of LCCU’s 20th year anniversary. We hope that you will be a part of our journey as we continue to empower individuals and strengthen communities for many more years to come.
