Durham, NC — On Thursday, August 7, Latino Community Credit Union (LCCU) marked a major milestone with a special event celebrating its 25th anniversary. The gathering honored the members, partners, and community leaders who have played an essential role in LCCU’s journey—from its founding roots in Durham to becoming a nationally recognized model for financial inclusion and empowerment, with more than $1 billion in assets.
Maria Scanga, co-founder and current LCCU board chair reflected on LCCU’s remarkable ascent, emphasizing that the credit union’s success is the product of shared passion, dedication, and community-driven vision: “LCCU was built by the community, for the community. Its success reflects the dreams, hard work, and collaboration of thousands of members and partners who believed in a better financial future.”
The event premiered a inspirational new video that highlighted LCCU’s journey and concluded with the official release of LCCU’s 25-Year Impact Report, documenting the credit union’s transformative legacy and measurable impact. The video and report highlight how a new generation of LCCU members is now “taking flight”—leveraging homeownership and responsible lending to start businesses and send their children to college.
